Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
I thought this was interesting with the guys walking along the top of the crane arm while they were setting it up. Three vertical shots with the D200 handheld.
Cheers

Hi All
I was back down at the UWA today for more sport commitments. I shot the training building again handheld using a 200mm f2.8 lens and stitched up the seventeen shots.

Hi All
A windy evening down at the beach tonight. I took this from the groin looking back at the beach. Five horizontal frames HDRed and stitched. A bit of post processing in Ps.

Is that like shooting from the hip? ![]()
............
In these energy conscious times why do they have floodlighting at the beach?

Hi All
HDR Pano tonight with two frames of five shots each, -2 to +2 stops. Had to shoot ISO800 to get it so it is a little softer than I prefer also the evening was pretty windy, unexpectedly. Same building as before, but from the eastern side.
Cheers

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
A vertical pano. Is it better from others experience to shoot these images from bottom up or top down? This is handheld and a bit soft at the top. I need to get a pano head to take the image over vertical.
Cheers

Beware! not every camera + panohead + lens combination can do that and this depends whether you want the NPP being exactly where it should or accept to move the camera forward (or more exactly upward when pointing toward zenith) or not.
BTW it seems that the crane was quite distant from the camera so that a tripod without a panohead could be enough (
you can't use a panohead without a tripod but can use a tripod without a panohead with non negligible benefits and this include inexpensive light tripods as well.)

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi Georges
The crane was directly in front of me and went over my head. It probably covered something like 120° plus of arc from the camera position. I was actually hoping to get the buildings from my side of the street in the top of the shot.
I already use a Manfrotto 075 tripod, so light doesn't come into the question.
Cheers

Late tonight I took this as it is the first time I have found the lighting the way I want it. Suburbia in monochrome.

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
I was out doing some HDR shots and grabbed this pano at the end of the shoot. I have a new Pano head which while basic does allow me to have the camera in vertical orientation. I shot this with my D1H and the image posted is the original size of the finished pano. The 2.7 MP shots certainly process quickly!

Hi All
Out to night for the moon rise, but didn't find a spot I liked. Grabbed this anyway, HDR and pano. Alos a bit of Ps because I was too lazy on the HDR part.

This one and "suburbia in monochrome" have a very mellow feel to them, I like it. A little verticals would help with this one!
I like what I've seen of Australia so far.
ps. This got me thinking, is there anything you'd like to see of Poland? I don't mean any famous landmarks, just anything particular in my city? [google maps] [wikipedia]

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
I have been working very hard for the last eight weeks or so and have not had the time for a lot of panos, but I did get to Kalgoorlie for Easter. Here is one of the pubs, called "The Federal". Built in 1899 it is one of the "old" buildings in town.

Tim,
I thoroughly enjoy the subject matter of your photos, and appreciate the mini-trip to OZ through the view of your lens.
The rotunda back in March was a masterpiece.
Keep up the good work.

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
I have been really busy at work lately and have been out bush quite a lot. Here is a panorama I took while out bush with some accompanying text that might explain things a bit.
I got sidetracked from panoramas for a while by a complete reformat and reinstall of my iMac and then it just seemed like a lot of hassle to go to for the upgrade to Autopano Pro 2, so I sort of slipped out of panorama mode. Here is the first panorama I have shot and processed with Autopano Pro 2. You can see it has got quite a wide circulation.
Cheers

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
Seeing Kevin started the whole mine pano thing, here is the "Super Pit" at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. It is between 300 and 400 metres deep and getting bigger.
While it does not compare to the IOCG deposits of Chile for pit size, it is a bit more profitable. Peak gold, here we come!

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
Hi All
I have been so busy over the last six months with work, I have even forgotten into which end of the camera the light goes. I now have three weeks off to shoot more panoramas and in two days I head off for holidays to St. Germain, Paris!
Bonne Annee!

Re: Dawn in the Western Pilbara, Western Australia
I think you should take more upper rows for your first panos. You'll have a better view especially in upper side. I always see my final panorama in mind before shotting.
