What do you see as the advantages of Automate over a Merlin+Papywizard system.
To me Automate only seems suited to shooting partial panos of distant landscapes with longer focal length lenses. Pitch range is very limited and you cannot really set the camera/lens at the NPP.
Merlin+Papywizard is very much more versatile IMO. Less expensive too.

Re: Automate Bot
I have it, and is very different about merlin.
Benefits: very small and light, you put it in your backpack if you're not sure use;
loads in autopano as if it were gigapan
fully programmable
Work with external sensors
Once programmed you can go and turn off the control
prende fino a 100 metri con l'antenna inclusa
ready to work
disadvantages: can adjust only the horizontal pupil of entry (with binbario not included)
little vertical excursion (sufficient only for gigapixel) without manual correction on the joint
imprecise on optical over 400mm, works with the times because he have not encoder
Conclusion?
If I have to go to the mountains to walk, have better automate that have nothing, 360 cilindrical are ok with an 16mm full frame.
If I want to work precisely and only going to do that better merlin (I hope, because I'm waiting it and I took it on purpose)

Re: Automate Bot
I also found this one: http://www.roundshot.ch/xml_1/internet/de/intro.cfm It's really expensive but on hte other hand you need no interface to program it. It looks stable. They have a rental service. too. With a device this costly it is good to have the possibility to try it out before you buy it.

fast is fast but it is only for cilindrical pano on 1 row, not gigapixel no multirow partial pano or 360...
I prefer to use an extra minute to do it manually at this point, but without spending money

Andrea,
as far as I understood this robot from Seitz moves the panoramic head hotizontally. All the vertical adjustments you have to do by hand.

Useless for advanced panoshooting.

I´ve been shooting with it sometimes. Not really stable and much too expensive for a one-axis motor.
It´s advantages are speed and a small footprint. But 1800.- € . . . . . no way. They charge 53.- € for 1,6m cable head release and about 100.- € for the camera release cable . . . ![]()

I'd rather have one of these - it is not exactly cheap either, but less expensive than the Roundshot or the PanoMachine, and it looks pretty good to me:

agreed - I have one of these - extremely inaccurate, the control is based only on motor speed, there is no encoding to guarantee the degrees of rotation on either axis, prone to problems on each interface (bluetooth, camera control, rotation accuracy)

At that price, might as well acquire a TimeMachine from http://www.bmumford.com/photo/camctlr.html
far more flexibility for triggered photos, and can also interface with motion control systemes

Is the same, i dont use that fuction, but if you want you can write a little program in automate lenguage (very simple lenguage but with condition loop etc) and launch it in automatic when your sensor reveal motion (or sound etc etc)
I'm not saying that automation is the best thing to do everyting, but it is handy to do many things, especially because it is small and flexible.
The big problem is for multiline that need to accommodate the pupil entry (360 or cilindrical multirow with close object), In that case nedded manual corrections,is possible calculate the new height and the new position of the track (I have an Excel sheet of corrections), but it is not practical...
and Merlin is better fot that, so I ordered one.
