I live in France, near Grenoble. I'm also the developer (and french translator, of course) of Papywizard.

Configuration

  • Pano head: Non GoTo Sky-Watcher
  • Firmware version: 010981
  • camera: Canon EOS 20D
  • Papywizard platform(s): Nokia N800/maemo OS2008, Tablet HP TC1100/linux
  • interface(s): Tronisoft TTL-RS232 converter + AIRCable MiniOS RS232-Bluetooth converter, Deltawave "PapyMerlin" BT module , custom RS232-TTL converter + Wisnap RS232-wifi converter
  • Merlin/Orion modification(s): custom crown

Usage

I shoot partial (hi-resolution or not) panos, and spherical panos:

- For partial panos, I use either a Canon 17-40@17mm, a Canon 50mm lens, or a Canon 70-200@200mm.

- For spherical, I mainly use a Tokina fisheye 10-17@10mm, but also a Canon 17-40@17mm.

I plan to use a pole for semi-aerial panos (partial and spherical).

I'm also planning to build a servo-based panohead, like Phil's PanoDuino.

BeeZed

I am a hobbyist living in New Zealand.

Configuration

  • Pano head: Non GoTo Sky-Watcher
  • Firmware version: 010981
  • cameras: Nikon D70, Nikon D80, FujiFilm S3 Pro
  • Papywizard platform(s): Nokia 770/maemo OS2007HE
  • interface(s): SmartFun BlueSMIRF Bluetooth-TTL converter + SONY 12v > 4.5v power supply
  • Merlin/Orion modification(s): None yet, but I am using arca swiss rails to replace the stock L bracket.

Usage

I will use it for automated partial panos and the occasional spherical using primarily my Nikon 10.5mm FE, and lenses in the 18-50mm range. I really want to test the limits of the technology in the longer term, exploring time lapse panography, and eventually slit scan with a scanner based camera.

Mediavets

I'm Andrew Stephens. I live in Isleham, Cambridgeshire in the UK. Pano photography is a hobby. Papywizard beta tester.

Configuration

  • Pano head: Non GoTo Merlin/Orion

  • Papywizard platform(s): Nokia 770/OS2007HE & N800/OS2008, IBM Thinkpad T23/Windows 2000 Pro, Dell GX270 desktop/Windows XP Pro.
  • interface(s): Tronisoft 4201 TTL-RS232 convertor + Tronisoft BTLink RS232-Bluetooth adapter.
  • Merlin/Orion modification(s): None. The Nikon D40 is a small bodied DSLR and NPP can be achieved without modifications to the Merlin mount.

Usage

Spherical panos using Nikkor 10.5mm FE and Sigma 8mm f3.5 FE. Partial panos using 10-55mm Nikon 'kit' zoom.

Paul

My kit just arrived, I am in the process of getting it to work. The Ursaminor BT-Adapter works just fine under windows, under linux, i have yet to pair him successfully. I guess a little reading is in order to get this done, but probably nothing major. So far, it looks like the Bluetooth dongle under linux is a little skewed; it works just fine under Windows xp.

I soldered a RS-232 level converter, and extended it with a 7805 Voltage regulator, to have a (wired) alternative to the Bluetooth device. This works fine under linux as well a Windows XP. Since I plan on using gphoto for tethered shooting, I will most probably have an USB cable running to the camera as well, so this is not a big issue for me.

I will try to work a bit on a auto-bracketing algorithm and maybe on timelapse in Papywizard, my knowledge of Python, and time, permitting.

I am interested in panoramic imaging, as well as HDR-panoramas and timelapse-photography. One of my areas of interest is using the spherical images as lightmaps for 3D imaging. Also, I would love to make a few experiments with Gigapixel photography.

As additional equipment, I have a Meade mount for a LX200GPS, but didn't succeed to have it remote controlled yet.

  • Firmware version: 010981
  • Camera: 5D, 20D. 15mm FE, 17-40L, 24-105L, 35L, 50/1.4, 100/2.8, 70-200 2.8L/IS, 300F4L
  • Papywizard platform(s): All my image processing is on OSX, although I also run both Windows and Linux. Can't get Papywizrd working on OSX 10.6 yet, so using it on XP via Parallels Desktop. Nokia N800 en route.
  • Interface(s): Deltawave "PapyMerlin" Bluetooth module
  • Merlin/Orion modification(s): Created a new arm specifically for the 5D/15FE - cost about $6. No modifications to the Merlin itself necessary to get the 5D+FE on the NPP with the new rail. Have modified the Merlin to integrate the PapyMerlin bluetooth module inside the casing. Am looking into a new crown to enable mounting of a more adjustable rail.

Usage

I shoot mainly 360x180 sphericals for immersive VR and ultra large scale rectilinear (usually less than gigapixel - normally around 30000x6000)

  • Merlin/Orion modification(s): Replaced 2-contact shutter release with 3-contact for Nikon use, crown mods to come !

Usage

I am an amateur photographer with the occasional paying gig. I shoot what I call "Technical Stock" photos, which is my fancy name for product photography of electronics and other things that can be used for marketing. I recently found a great deal on a portable 15m mast setup and bought it for aerial photography. Recto pano mostly. I've had requests from businesses for "birds-eye" pics and for overhead event and staff shots.

The PW/Orion head started as a need for remote camera positioning but I see the potential for much more fun stuff, including stitching multiple telephoto lens shots for exaggerated DOF images.

I want to know, how to stitch giant Gigapixels pano
My largest pano is 7,74 gigapixel pano. http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/48260/
I tried to stitch it by APGiga 2, but colapses all time. I tried it as GIGAPAN import and also PAPYWIZARD import with XML.
Sources 920 pictures, 92 columns in 10 rows.
I can stitch it in PTGui. But it mean too much of manual work.
Does anyone know, how to use XML file from Papywizard in PTGui?
Please HELP.

Configuration

  • Pano head: non-goto Sky-Watcher
  • Firmware version:
  • Camera: Canon 5d Mark II, though I might also play with some of my smaller P&S.
  • Papywizard platform(s): Netbook, Samsung NC10 with broadcom bluetooth chip. Since the Merlin seems like a "car shooting" device and not a backpacking one, I don't think I will get a Nokia. When Android bluetooth support improves, I would hazard that Papywizard may wish to move to that platform as it is readily available and carried by many people as it is, and you can already get python going on it, I am told.
  • Interface(s): Deltawave "PapyMerlin" Bluetooth module, I may also eventually move to USB tethered shooting, in which case I would probably also move to USB to serial TTL to control the Merlin. Of course an alternative would be if somebody did a slow version of encapsulated USB over bluetooth. (People have talked about it but I have yet to see it.) The USB over wifi solutions I have seen people who are interesting but a bit bulky for now.

Main goal will be gigapans, cylindrical. I am not that much into sphericals though I might try some. (I have a nice small 24mm lens as well as the long 200mm I will use for the gigapans.)
